Today is a historic day. It brings to an end 14 years of legal battles. And finally, after 14 years of legal battles, Julian Assange can go home a free man. WikiLeaks founder was sentenced to time already served in #Britain as part of a plea deal with the US.
The WikiLeaks founder was held in solitary confinement not for his own crimes, but for the crimes of the rich and powerful. His release is a very welcome surprise, but it’s long overdue.
After nearly 2,000 days behind bars, Julian Assange is now a free man. Although his saga has come to an end, his legal team warns that the case has had a chilling effect on journalism, highlighting the lengths #Washington will go to 'criminalize' the profession.
Assange's lawyer announced that there is no gag order or any other restrictions on Julian. The case against him is over. Assange sacrificed his own freedom for freedom of speech and freedom of press.
