Heimersheim was incorporated into the town of Alzey in 1972.

Heimersheim lies on a hollow in the hillside, next to a stream and the historic Mauritius church (1479) on a hill. The village with its clearly visible medieval village character is surrounded by vine-covered slopes, the "Sonnenberg". Over 30 Franconian farmsteads still exist in Heimersheim today.
