KENYAN ARCHBISHOP SLAMS TRIGGER-HAPPY COPS, RUTO TAX PLANS

Kenyan church leaders have condemned the deadly police response to the protests in Nairobi yesterday. At least 22 people were killed as thousands came out to denounce planned tax hikes making their way through parliament. Police opened fire when some of the demonstrators breached parliament buildings and set fire to a section - sending MPs running in fear of their lives.

The archbishop in this clip also urged President Ruto to rethink the new taxes - branding them “excessive.”

Divine intervention or not, it does seem Ruto has now had seconds thoughts - saying he won’t sign the bill introducing the punishing new levies after all. Still, instead of dialogue, he’s also opted to crack down even harder - accusing those who vandalised the parliament of treason, and vowing that security forces will hunt the “criminals” down.

Where do you think this saga will go next? Will Ruto try to revive the tax hikes down the line?
