More than half a million Jewish Americans served in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II. They were rich and poor, urban and rural, religious and secular. Most were the children of immigrants who had escaped persecution in Europe. They would return to battle the hatred that their parents had fled. They would endure anti-Semitic slurs from their fellow servicemen and prove that they were also true Americans.
