Avengers of 1946 the Jewish Holocaust Survivors Plot to Revenge

In 1946, the term “Avengers” referred to a group of Jewish survivors of the Holocaust who sought to avenge the atrocities committed by the Nazis. These individuals, often referred to as the “Nokmim” or “Nakam” (Hebrew for “avengers”), were determined to bring justice to those responsible for the genocide of six million Jews during World War II.

The Jewish Avengers were a group of survivors who had managed to escape the concentration camps and were determined to take revenge on their tormentors. They were led by Abba Kovner, a former member of the Jewish resistance in Vilna, who had escaped from the camp and made his way to Palestine.

The Avengers planned to poison the bread of German prisoners of war held in American camps, using arsenic to exact their revenge. The plan was to target high-ranking SS officers and other Nazi officials who had been responsible for the atrocities committed during the war.

On April 13, 1946, the Avengers carried out their plan, poisoning the bread of over 2,200 German prisoners of war in an American camp in Nuremberg, Germany. Although the poisoning caused many of the prisoners to fall ill, ultimately, no known deaths resulted from the attack.

The Avengers’ actions sparked a significant reaction, with many calling for the group to be brought to justice. The United States government was also concerned about the incident, as it threatened to disrupt the country’s efforts to rebuild Germany and promote peace in the region.

The Jewish Avengers’ actions in 1946 served as a symbol of the trauma and pain inflicted upon the Jewish people during the Holocaust. Their bravery and determination to seek justice for their fellow Jews have been remembered and honored by many as a testament to the resilience and strength of the Jewish people.
