The concept of the seven deadly sins is rooted in early Christian teachings and has been a significant topic in the moral and spiritual discourse of the church. These sins are considered "deadly" because they lead to further immorality and separate us from God's grace. Today, we will explore each of these sins with scriptural references from the New King James Version (NKJV).

1. Pride
"Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." - Proverbs 16:18

2. Envy
"A sound heart is life to the body, but envy is rottenness to the bones." - Proverbs 14:30

3. Wrath
"For the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God." - James 1:20

4. Sloth
"The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made rich." - Proverbs 13:4

5. Greed
"For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." - 1 Timothy 6:10

6. Gluttony
"Do not mix with winebibbers, or with gluttonous eaters of meat; for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and drowsiness will clothe a man with rags." - Proverbs 23:20-21

7. Lust
"But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart." - Matthew 5:28
