Warning Against Worldliness
Text: 1John 2:15-17

Objective: that the brethren avoid worldly activities
and instead be spiritual as often as possible

Intro:
Define – world, worldly, worldliness, pleasure, influence, Groupthink, hedonism
Examples of worldliness: places, think, pleasure, music, dress, money, materialism

Be Warned Against Worldliness because:
1. God Hates Worldliness - James 4:4
a. “enmity”, “enemy” – the mere action of being friendly to the world
b. We should choose sides/friends wisely
2. Worldliness is a Distraction from the More Important Matters - Luke 21:34
a. “take heed” – we need to focus, identify what is important and otherwise
3. Worldliness Prevents Many to be Saved - Matthew 16:26; Mark 8:36
a. Souls matter – important
b. Don’t let anything hinder us from winning souls therefore (laziness, fear…)
4. Worldliness keeps us from pursuing Better and Higher goals
a. Spiritual and Heavenly things - Colossians 3:1-2
i. Contrast with ‘things on the earth’ – is it worth it?
b. The Will of God - 1John 2:15-17
i. Define and put these in place
1. lust of the flesh,
2. the lust of the eyes,
3. the pride of life
c. Salvation and the Lord Himself - Titus 2:11-13
i. blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God

Message/conclusion:
Let us avoid worldly activities and instead be spiritual as often as possible, pursuing and doing the will of God everyday…
