Meanwhile, parts of Kenya's parliament were set ablaze by protesters who breached police lines to enter the compound, according to a Reuters witness. Earlier in the day, Kenya's parliament passed a controversial finance bill aimed at generating an additional $2.7 billion in taxes to ease the country's heavy debt burden. Protesters gathered outside as the measures were approved before parliament adjourned. In Nairobi and other cities, clashes intensified with police deploying tear gas, water cannons, and firing shots to disperse stone-throwing protesters. The demonstrators oppose tax hikes amid a severe cost-of-living crisis, with some also demanding President William Ruto's resignation.
