The Grasshopper Warbler is a small brown bird that's quite hard to spot. It gets its name from the weird noise it makes, which sounds a bit like a grasshopper or a fishing reel. These birds like to hide in thick bushes and tall grass. They come to the UK in spring to breed and then fly off to warmer places for winter.
Grasshopper Warblers eat lots of insects and spiders. They're great at creeping through grass and bushes to find food. When they're breeding, the males sing their odd song for hours on end, often at night. They make their nests on or near the ground, using grass and leaves.
Sadly, there aren't as many of these birds as there used to be. This is because the places they like to live are disappearing. Farmers and builders are changing the land, which means less space for Grasshopper Warblers. People are trying to help by protecting the areas where these birds live and breed.
