Blue Earth County Emergency Management in Blue Earth County, Minnesota, reported debris accumulation at Rapidan Dam. The dam is in near failure condition, with significant erosion on the west side. County and Xcel Energy staff are repairing power outages and checking nearby bridges for debris. Authorities have issued a warning to downstream residents and related agencies.
Dam operators say the river has eroded the soil around the dam and is beyond their control, and say the dam itself has not failed, but there are growing concerns that it could collapse at some point.
