Since 2016, the flat-earther known as Mike Hughes has attempted four times to fly in a rocket he made himself. Rumors circulated on the internet that he was risking his own life to prove his theory without scientific basis. Until February 22, the outcome was truly tragic and the adventurer ended up dying in one of his endeavors.

On the last journey that ended in his death, Hughes was flying for the Science Channel's "Homemade Astronauts" program. The goal was to reach an altitude of 1.5 kilometers, flying over the Barstow region in California.
