Michigan’s Road Rebuilding Runs up the Tab

According to a Bridge Michigan report, a worker shortage combined with inflation have made it costlier than ever to find the people and the materials necessary to repair the roads. While Whitmer’s Rebuilding Michigan program has done much to improve several key highways, many local roads and bridges continue to fall into disrepair. The current bonding debt will take decades to repay, and on top of that, the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association estimated in 2023 that Michigan will have to spend $3.9 billion more per year to complete the necessary road repairs.
