June 2024 President’s Message - "Are You Part of a Team?"

My message for this month was sparked by a conversation I had with a close friend and his wife in Tioga County. It truly exemplifies not only one of the reasons I started the STN movement but what I am seeing more and more as I witness the grinding down of the hopes and dreams of many of our compatriots.

My conversation with my friend’s wife revolved around a question I asked her. You see, she had recently retired from her position as a rural delivery carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. She had retired early, and I simply questioned why she had left her job sooner than she had planned. The response I received was not only shocking but disappointing as well.

She related to me that in 2020 she had witnessed a truck full of election ballots coming through their post office in upstate PA bound for Georgia. She found this odd and somewhat upsetting at the time. However, she did nothing about it. Later on, she had another incident involving a mail-in ballot that she had picked up on her route. However, the individual who supposedly sent the ballot hadn’t lived in the area for seven years.

This time she approached her supervisor about the issue and related her observation to him. The response she received was the last straw. She was asked if the letter had a stamp on it. Her response was yes. Her supervisor then told her that if it has a stamp on it, her job was to deliver it. That was it! No other questions or investigation. So, she quit. She retired at that point, and she now enjoys her retired life with her husband.

That sounds like a nice, relaxing way to spend the rest of your life. And I certainly don’t fault her for making that decision. She had been “ground down” after witnessing things that had never happened before and should never happen again. But what could she do? She had no support; there was nowhere else to go. She truly felt hopeless and helpless.

Many individuals I have spoken to recently feel that way too. However, as I said early on in our meetings, we must unify. That is the only way we can be effective. Fragmented, we can do very little, but as a unified front, we can accomplish a lot.

It is important to understand, however, that we must have a plan, and we must work the plan. We saw this play out with STN’s efforts in our last school board elections. We also saw it with Mark Houck’s campaign, where ours was the only district in that election in which Mark won every district. That didn’t happen by accident. It occurred due to a plan put in place by teams that worked in concert to get the job done.

So, I ask you, are you part of a team? Are you working with us to preserve your Second Amendment rights? Are you working to ensure that we have election integrity in our upcoming elections? Are you working on our Educational Keystone by helping put together our events? Are you engaging with our team to ensure that our school board is aware of and moving forward with the goals and agenda set by parents? Are you engaging with our team to make sure that we educate the public about the rampant sex trafficking crisis?

If you are not, then why not? Is it easier to just complain or worry? God put us here for a reason. This all didn’t just happen! He has the plan, and we are a part of that plan. You are part of that plan. I know that you are busy, you have a lot on your plate with your job, your family, and life, but when will you engage and join a team? Will that be after it is too late? Once it is on your doorstep, it will be too late. You must become a part of the solution. If you stand idly by, then you are part of the problem, and you certainly have no right to complain!

Remember, you may need to put your neck on the line as our Founding Fathers did. C.S. Lewis said it this way in The Screwtape Letters: “Pilate was merciful until it became risky.” And you see where that ended up. Ultimately it was a good ending, but he could have done more. Don’t end up like Pilate later in life, when it is too late, remorsefully acknowledging that, “I could have done more.”
