Sympathy for the Devil: addendum re: Meredith Curly Hunter, age 18

The Rolling Stones recorded “Sympathy for the Devil” at London’s Olympic Sound Studios on 4–5 June 1968, with additional overdubs on 8–10 June. The song was released on December 6, 1968, as part of their album Beggars Banquet 12. It’s a captivating track that features Mick Jagger singing from the perspective of the Devil, recounting historical events and inviting listeners to “guess my name.”

Alan Passaro was born on August 23, 1948, in Farrell, Pennsylvania, USA. He died on March 29, 1985, in Morgan Hill, California, USA.

In 1980, he was given a two-year prison sentence on a weapons charge and federal racketeering charges in relation to his activities with the Hells Angels. He was released from prison in 1984, and the following year Passaro was found dead wearing a suit and floating in the Anderson Reservoir with $10,000 in his pocket. Cause of death was drowning, though foul play was never confirmed.
Passaro was caught on film stabbing Meredith Hunter and put on trial for murder. However, a close examination of the film revealed that Hunter had pulled a gun first. Subsequently, Passaro was acquitted of the murder charge on the grounds of self-defense. CIA lawyer Melvin Belli represented age 21 Alan Passaro at trial.
