Federal authorities are offering a $10,000 reward for information about those responsible for starting two wildfires in New Mexico that killed two people and destroyed hundreds of homes.

The FBI is seeking public assistance to identify the cause of the South Fork Fire and Salt Fire near Ruidoso, discovered on June 17, suspecting human involvement.

The South Fork Fire, spanning 26 square miles, is 26% contained, while the Salt Fire, covering 12 square miles, is 7% contained, with full containment expected by July 15.

Recent rains and cooler weather have aided over 1,000 firefighters in their efforts. Evacuations and road closures remain in effect, with some residents allowed to return on Monday, the Associated Press has reported.
