Severe flooding in northeastern Bangladesh has left about 1.8 million people stranded after weeks of heavy rains. The flood inundated homes and farmlands, with the towns of Sylhet and Sunamganj particularly affected.
The flooding was caused by prolonged rains and runoff from hilly areas on the border with India, causing four rivers to overflow. Residents of low-lying areas of Sylhet are forced to wade through the water and pile up their belongings for protection.
