Who is the author? Who was the original audience? What do we know about the audience? What do we know about the circumstances in which this book was written? What’s the author’s main message?Fortunately, the very first verse of the Book of James gives us the answer to some of these questions.JAM 1:1 “James, a servant (doulos = slave) of GOD (Theos) and of the LORD Jesus Christ.
Salvation is by faith alone, not by works as Paul wrote in EPH 2:8-9. However, if works (ergons), in the plan of GOD, resulting from a changed attitude towards life, and a change in our life, if we are indeed new creatures in Christ, and if good works is not the result of that faith, well, something is lacking to be sure. That is works in the plan of GOD, as a soldier in Christ.
EPH 2:8-9, For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of GOD; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
