The smoky frogmouth is an amazing creature that looks like an owl.
However, its closest relative is not the owl, but the nightjar. Another name for the bird is the gigantic white-legged. Compared to other nightjars, this frogmouth is truly a giant, which is why it is called gigantic. However, its dimensions are quite modest - up to 53 centimeters in height, 600-1400 grams of net weight. Moreover, frogmouths larger than a kilogram are frogmouths who are obese.

For most of the day, the frogmouth sits on a tree branch and dozes. Its gray, red and black feathers blend perfectly with the bark. Even being two steps away from a bird, it is easy to confuse it with a broken branch.
