A great classic match from the turn of the century at the old Ninian Park with Cardiff City looking to go back to the top of the old Division Three with Carlisle United standing in their way.

The fortunes of the two sides were a stark contrast - Cardiff City had been galvanised by the return of Frank Burrows as Manager and he had created a robust side who spent most of the season at the top end of the League. By contrast, Carlisle United were struggling after their Wembley successes in the decade and the Chairmanship of Michael Knighton had turned sour. The appointment of a young Nigel Pearson as their Manager had done little to change their fortunes and they faced an ominous task down in South Wales.
