The social activists in the 1960’s protested against the American involvement in the Vietnam War. They partnered with the black civil rights movement to challenge Jim Crow laws and segregation. Martin Luther King Jr. was murdered, not only because he fought the white establishment, but also because he started speaking out against the Vietnam War. He was not the first black activist to be killed. There were a lengthy list of blacks killed, beginning in the 1950’s—several white men and women, who supported their cause, were also murdered.
