4,000-Year-Old Minoan Site Mystifies Archaeologists
A Bronze Age circular structure has been unearthed on a hilltop in Crete, Greece. It is the first monument of this type that has been discovered on the island.
Based on the style of pottery fragments discovered during the excavation, archaeologists have established that the main period of use seems to have been between 2000 BC and 1700 BC, in the middle of the Minoan civilization often regarded as the oldest civilization in Europe. Around the same time, Crete’s monumental palaces at Knossos and Phaistos were built.
The monumental architectural complex is ring-shaped and very much different from the Minoan palaces which were arranged in a square or rectangular fashion.
But is a similar building possibly located just on the other side of the valley?
