Millions along the southern Texas coast were under severe weather advisories due to Tropical Storm Alberto, which brought threats of dangerous storm surges, torrential rain, and possible tornadoes.

The first named storm of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, Alberto made landfall in northern Mexico early Thursday, traveling west from Tampico with sustained winds of 45 mph.

Forecasts predict up to 20 inches of rain in parts of northeast Mexico and nearly a foot in southern Texas, raising the risk of significant flash flooding, urban flooding, and potential mudslides, USA Today has reported.
