IF SALVATION IS FREE ... / Pastor Bob's Coffee Break

Dear Pastor Bob: Is Salvation and discipleship the same thing? Some say that Salvation is freely given. But in order to receive it, it will cost our life. That sounds contradictory and confusing. I thought Jesus gives eternal life for free by simply believing and trusting in Him? Does Salvation precede discipleship?  Or, is Salvation a life-long process? I ask because some say we receive Salvation at the end of our life when we get to Heaven. Is this Biblical?
