BBC Reith Lectures explores how to protect democracy against AI
'If we try and outsource our own decision-making... elections will become illusions,' says BBC Reith lecturer CBC Radio · Posted: Jun 10, 2024 5:58 PM EDT

Oxford professor Ben Ansell explores how to create political systems that can take on the wide-ranging challenges of the 21st century in his 2023 BBC Reith Lectures entitled, Our Democratic Future.

From the attack on the U.S. Capitol building, to the gilets jaunes movement in France, to the convoy encampment in Ottawa, people throughout the democratic world are angry. Public opinion polls in the U.S., U.K., and Canada show people have rarely been more dissatisfied with their politicians.

The BBC's Reith Lectures ask: if democracy means we rule ourselves, why are we so dissatisfied with our choices?
