About 80 million people in the US are currently subject to an extreme heat warning, as a huge dome of hot airhovers over mid-Western and Eastern states.

In the West, firefighters are still battling to bringseveral wildfires under control.

Weather warnings have also been issued in four Canadian provinces.

The extreme heat has been described by the NationalWeather Service as the region's first significant heatwave of the season.
