The movie follows Claire Mathewson (Thelma Todd), who plots to rendezvous with her lover Gerald (Roland Young) in Venice, Italy, for the weekend. However, her plans are disrupted when her husband Stephen (Cary Grant) returns home unexpectedly from the Summer Olympics, where he was supposed to compete in the javelin throw. To cover up their affair, Claire and Gerald concoct a story that the trip was a surprise for Stephen and for Gerald’s non-existent wife.
