Not long after leaving Lutzville we arrived at the first small fishing hamlet called Ebenhaeser. The Rhenish Missionary Society and specifically a German named Wurmb, started a mission station here in 1831. We then headed to Papendorp and what a mind-blowing experience we had here! This hamlet is on the mouth of the Olifants River and has the most beautiful views of the Olifants River Estuary. Interesting is the fact that this is the second most important estuary in South Africa. It supports an abundance of wildlife, including 38 different species of fish, 200 bird species of which 72 are water birds and 21 migrant birds that arrive during the summer months, when the number of birds almost double to 6000 birds. We then drove up to the salt pan which also was spectacular. This place is completely unexpected and a definite must-see! #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #lutzville #ebenhaeser #papendorp #olifantsrivermouth
