Fake DEI Sign Language Interpreter Exposed as a Fraud

Hiring unqualified black people based on "diversity, equity, and inclusion" has many negative consequences. Take this absurd example from Tampa, Florida. A black woman named Derlyn Roberts was exposed for doing fake sign language gestures during a serious press report about serial killer Howell "Trai" Emanuel Donaldson III (also black). Deaf people who wanted to know about the case (such as the mother of one of the murder victims) were left in the dark.

"Most of the time it just looked like she was signing but not using actual signs," said USF professor Rachelle Settambrino. "When she was spelling words out, she wasn't spelling anything at all. They were just gibberish more than anything." A spokesperson for TPD says he didn't do his due diligence, and did not question Roberts when she showed up as an ASL interpreter. "We have so many interpreting agencies and proficient, skilled interpreters here. Where did this person come from, and why did they not vet her appropriately?" Settambrino asked.

This horrible event was not the first time Derlyn Roberts defrauded society. Roberts once stole a fortune from special needs kids and taxpayers in a Tampa private school fraud case. Roberts misappropriated education money from Florida’s MacKay Scholarship fund and used most of it for her own personal benefit in a scheme that stretched from 2004 until 2009. One court record spells out $350,000 in stolen money and another one references restitution amounting to $230,000. Hillsborough court records show that for most of that time, Roberts assumed the identity and impersonated Angela Darien in order to continue receiving state education money.
