The Kidnappers is a 1953 British film directed by Philip Leacock and written by Neil Paterson. The movie is based on Paterson’s short story “Scotch Settlement”.

The story takes place in the early 1900s and follows the lives of two young orphaned brothers, Harry (Jon Whiteley) and Davy Mackenzie (Vincent Winter), who are sent to live with their grandfather, Jim MacKenzie (Duncan Macrae), in a remote Scottish homestead in Nova Scotia.

The brothers struggle to adjust to their new life with their cantankerous grandfather, who is initially reluctant to accept them. The tension between the grandfather and the boys is further complicated when a baby is “kidnapped” from the local trading store.

The film stars Jon Whiteley and Vincent Winter, who both won Academy Awards for their performances. The movie received positive reviews, with many praising the performances of the young actors and the film’s heartwarming story.

The Kidnappers was the eighth most popular movie at the British box office in 1954. A second film based on the same short story was released in 1990, starring Charlton Heston in the role of Granddaddy.
