‘A Sheer Level of Disrespect’: Ameshia Cross on Trump’s Attitude Towards Diverse, Black-Run Cities

RUSH TRANSCRIPT:
COLEMAN JR.: “Evening to you both. We have basically seen Donald Trump use this playbook before. We know that he’s going to disparage certain cities and that most of those cities are going to be Democrat-led. But, it’s another element here, because most of those cities have nonwhite mayors. I am sure this is no coincidence, but you could certainly prove me wrong if you think otherwise.”
CROSS: “You took the words right out of my mouth. It’s not just that they are democratic-run and it’s that they’re black-run as well. The same attitude that we have seen Donald Trump have for Milwaukee he has for my home city, the one that I am in right now, Chicago. He consistently is saying things that are not true, they are not factual in the least. He talked about rising crime and violence, crime has been on the downturn in Milwaukee for about four years now. This year alone has seen some of the most sizable decrease they’ve seen in crime in the past two decades. I think there are a lot of lies, he likes to propagate, but he also likes to attack cities that are urban centers and cities that are diverse, diverse to be is the death nail to the Republican Party and is the death nail to Trump and Trump’s agenda. He does not appreciate people of color, he does not appreciate young people. He does not want to see diverse communities rise, he does not want to see the economy that is growing across Milwaukee, he does not want to give strength to that city. What it means for the state of Wisconsin and the fact that the convention will be nominating him, there is a sheer level of disrespect that goes beyond Milwaukee to every single urban center in this country, particularly those run by people who are black.”
