The Court Jester, (Sad Clown Syndrome)

A court jester, fool, or joker was a member of the household of a nobleman, or a monarch employed to entertain guests during royal court1. Jesters were also traveling performers who entertained common folk at fairs and town markets. The tradition of the court jester is ancient and goes back beyond the birth of Christ. Most people associate jesters with medieval and Renaissance Europe.
