The Monroe Doctrine. Not The World Police Doctrine

If we still followed the Monroe Doctrine as it was originally written we would not have bases all over the world. It probably would have prevented 9/11. We would not have spent the lives of thousands of our own soldiers and 20 years just to give the country back when we decided to pull out over night. If it doesn't happen here or affect us directly we have no reason to be the world police. Let someone else fight that fight. We have bases all over the world in countries that depend on us for their safety while they actually spend very little on their own defense.
