The Fighting Sullivans is a 1944 American biographical WWII movie directed by Lloyd Bacon and written by Edward Doherty, Mary C. McCall Jr., and Jules Schermer. The movie is based on the true story of the Sullivan brothers, five Irish-American brothers, George, Frank, Joe, Matt, and Al, who grow up in Waterloo, Iowa, and share a strong bond. When the United States enters World War II, the brothers decide to join the Navy together, despite their parents’ initial reluctance. The movie follows their journey as they serve on the USS Juneau, a cruiser that is sunk during the Battle of Guadalcanal in November 1942.
