Whether you're dabbling in Linux or installing Windows, creating a bootable drive is often a complex task. Ventoy revolutionizes this process by allowing you to format a drive once and then simply drag and drop ISO files to boot from them.

An external hard drive or USB stick filled with bootable operating systems is incredibly useful. It provides a convenient way to test different operating systems without full installation. Linux distributions often offer a live trial, and Ventoy accelerates this by eliminating the need to rewrite the image to the drive each time. Moreover, Ventoy makes it easy to manage multiple installable operating systems, keeping them on one device, which is especially handy for computer repair technicians.

After installing Ventoy, it creates a partition for ISO, WIM, IMG, VHD(x), and EFI files. While it theoretically supports any bootable image, a list of verified ISOs is provided. Note that macOS and booting from Ventoy on Mac devices are not supported.

Start by downloading Ventoy for your operating system. When launched, connect the drive you want to use for booting. Ventoy tends to show only external drives to prevent accidental overwriting of internal storage.

Select the drive and begin the installation. Ventoy will divide the drive into two parts: one for the boot loader and another for your image files. You can add numerous images to this partition and organize them into folders—Ventoy will locate all compatible files, even in subdirectories.

I tested this by loading my drive with various Linux distros and a Windows 11 installer, then rebooted the system.
