Sandra Saint-Cyr
Sandra Saint-Cyr recently ran in the school trustee by-election for the Louis Riel School Division on June 6, 2024. With a longstanding commitment to education, Sandra's campaign focused on several key issues:
Parental Engagement: Sandra pledged to connect with parents through regular and meaningful dialogue. She aimed to create a parent advisory group for consultation and attend PAC meetings across the division regularly.
Policy Representation: Sandra committed to representing parents in creating policies that reflect student and family priorities, ensuring that core education remains a focal point for students.

The June 6 by-election saw a very low voter turnout, reflecting the community's disinterest and engagement in selecting their school trustees. In addition, the election process and outcomes were not without controversy. Media outlets, including the Winnipeg Free Press, published several articles that some viewed as slanted and prejudicial against Sandra Saint-Cyr. Despite a spirited campaign, Sandra finished second with 430 votes out of a total of 2,414 ballots cast, resulting in a voter turnout of 9.47% (City of Winnipeg) (City of Winnipeg).
The by-election saw Ian Walker elected as the new school trustee with 1,554 votes. Despite Sandra's strong campaign, media coverage often portrayed her positions and candidacy in a biased light. Articles from local outlets like the Winnipeg Free Press exhibited a slanted perspective, potentially influencing public opinion and voter behavior.
