Listening to the Corn Grow

When I was a child my Grandmother would sit on their porch in the afternoon in silence…I asked her one day, “What are you doing?”
She responded, “I’m listening to the corn grow!”
“Why?”
“Because if you are quiet enough and patient enough sometimes while you are listening you can hear God whisper to the corn, GROW! If I can hear him talk to the corn then when the spirits talk to me I’ve practiced listening enough to hear them speak!”

Everyday, I try to remember, to practice listening and patience so that I can truly hear even a whisper when I’m spoken to.
