French President Emmanuel Macron has defended his shock decision to dissolve parliament and call elections.
He said calling elections was the only republicanoption and urged French voters to come together and "say no to the extremes".
Macron's decision to call two rounds of elections inJune and July has left the Conservative republicans deeply divided.
