How the Two-Party System Undermines the Founder's Intent on Separation of Powers

What does it matter if you carefully separate state from federal power, legislative from judicial power, if these formal barriers are evaded by a unitary party system? The party system as it now exists end-runs the checks and balances the founders put in place.
