It's 1856, and Sam Hunter from Iowa City falls in love with a Mormon Pioneer traveling west to Utah under treacherous circumstances. To gain her love, he joins the church and joins the movement west. His faith is challenged when an early winter causes trouble for the Martin Handcart Company.
