HOW THE U.N. HAS FAILED SUDANESE REFUGEES

On 1 May, thousands of Sudanese refugees left Olala camp in Amhara region in Ethopia after repeated pleas to Ethiopian authorities and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for necessities and safety against armed fighters went unanswered. Sudanese content creator Sara (@bsonblast) said the refugees have opted to seek safety in the wilderness. She called on people to not donate to the United Nations as refugees suffer.

The civil/proxy war in Sudan between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) has led to one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises and the world’s largest displacement crisis. Since 15 April 2023, various entities have released wildly ranging estimates from 15,000 to 150,000 Sudanese people being k*lled, while close to 10 million Sudanese are displaced, according to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data. The violence has devastated once-thriving cities, with civilians facing atrocities, food shortages, wavering internet access and destruction of infrastructure.

The question is, why has the international community remained silent and failed to help millions of Sudanese people and advocate for peace?
