The I read it in a book argument

Consider that claiming “I read it in a book” can be a very weak, unsubstantiated and an unstable argument for backing up your point of view.

Regardless of it being categorized as fiction or non fiction, a book might just be an opinion.

That book or statement in a book that you might be referencing as a fact, may only be an opinion, a view or completely wrong. It could also be intentionally or unintentionally deceiving and false.

Instead of taking a book at face value and concluding it has validity because it is a published book…

Look deeper into the author as well as their experience and authority.

Look further into the referencing, the research and how the information is presented as well as who is presenting it.

In the end, consider that anyone, at any level of knowledge can easily publish a book in hours these days. With that in mind, please choose a wiser approach to your references and how you back up your arguments.
