South Korea has announced it plans to restartpropaganda broadcasts over the North Korea borderafor the first time in six yearsin response toPyongyang sending rubbish-filled balloons across the border.

Over 300 North Korean balloons were detected overSaturday and Sunday with around 80 landing in theSouth carrying scrap paper and plastic sheets, aftersending several hundred the previous month.

Following the latest batch of balloons, South Korea'sNational Security Council said broadcasts on theborder would resume on Sunday after agreeing torestart the loudspeakers for the first time since 2018.

In recent years, the broadcasts have included newsfrom both Koreas and abroad as well as informationon democracy and life in South Korea, and the SouthKorean military claims the broadcasts can be heard asmuch as 10km (6.2 miles) across the border in the dayand up to 24km (15 miles) at night.
