The United Nations Security Council has voted tosupport a US resolution backing a ceasefire plan in Gaza.

It sets out conditions for a "full and completeceasefire", the release of hostages held by Hamas, thereturn of dead hostages' remains and the exchange of Palestinian prisoners.

Fourteen of the 15 Security Council members voted infavour of the US-drafted resolution, while Russia abstained.

It means the Security Council joins a number ofgovernments, as well as the G7 group of the world'srichest nations, in backing the three-part plan that wasunveiled by President Joe Biden in a televised statement on 31 May.
