Dance Medicine at Elevate Festival : DJ Pixi-Pete
Dance Medicine: The New Wave of Ecstatic Movement
In a world where dance has often been seen as a form of entertainment or exercise, a new movement is emerging that redefines its purpose and power.
In this episode, we have DJ Pixi-Pete, a dance medicine facilitator, exploring the evolution from ecstatic dance to a more intentional, ceremonial, and somatic practice known as Dance Medicine.
The traditional concept of ecstatic dance is a term that has been widely used to describe a DJ-led embodiment practice. However, Pete shares how this term no longer fully encapsulates the depth and breadth of the experience. Dance Medicine is a practice that organically evolved through collaboration and experimentation with somatic shamanic guidance and we are so happy that Pete will be holding a Dance Medicine session on the Sunday night at Elevate Festival.

Dance Medicine is more than just a dance; it is a holistic approach that integrates movement, meditation and community connection. It offers a therapeutic space where individuals can release long-term traumas or simply shake off the stress of a bad week. As Pete explains;
"Dance is just such an amazing way of making you feel good, shifting any funk that you've acquired."
We also delve into the role of cacao ceremonies in dance medicine. Cacao, is a heart-opening medicine used to deepen the connection to oneself and others during the dance.
Creating a safe and non-judgmental space is crucial in Dance Medicine. Pete emphasises the importance of allowing dancers to have autonomy over their experience, encouraging them to embrace their intuition and let go of the fear of making mistakes;
"We start to learn, we start to gather our own embodied experience of what it means to be true to ourselves and feel okay with making mistakes."
As the conversation unfolds, it becomes clear that Dance Medicine is more than just a trend; it is a movement that is reshaping the way we view dance and its potential for healing.
Whether you're a seasoned dancer or someone looking for a new way to connect with yourself and others, this episode offers valuable insights and inspiration, where you can discover how this practice can help you reconnect with your body, mind, and spirit, and join a community that celebrates self-expression and healing through movement.
