As part of the Palestinian boycott of Israeli taxation and commodities during the first Intifada (Uprising) in the 1980s, residents of Beit Sahour decided to form a collective and stop purchasing milk from Israeli companies.

Israeli security forces eventually declared the dairy cows a "threat to Israel's national security" & began hunting them down,,, so the herd 'went underground'.
