MZTV 1493: Christians Confront Their Hypocrisy With the Magical Phrase, "It's Just a Mystery!"

Whenever Christians are confronted with one of their obvious hypocrisies, they all do the same thing. The hypocrisy in view today is the one which says that “Christ saved me” and, at the same time, “I saved myself by believing in Christ.” It’s the hypocrisy which says “I am a helpless sinner,” and “I am NOT a helpless sinner,” all at the same time. What do the Christians all do? With appalling consistency, they all says: “Well, it’s just a mystery.”

Ha ha! It’s the same type subterfuge employed by the magician who drops a giant sheet in front of the elephant before he “makes the elephant disappear.” Sorry, magician sir, but I’d feel a little better about the deception without the sheet.

These hypocrisies are not mysteries; they’re embarrassing hypocrisies. The Mystery Card is a desperate and lazy attempt to excuse oneself for wanting one’s cake and eating it too, that is, of wanting to have a God Who is in control, but of desperately wanting PERSONAL control at the same time. Because it is only personal control, you see, that allows one to condemn others to hell for eternity. “It’s their own damn fault,” they say. Really? But wouldn’t that mean that its your own damn credit, then, for being saved?

SOMEBODY PASS THE MYSTERY CARD!
