The Filipino Heritage Society of Montreal launched Filipino Heritage Month in Canada every June. It all started in Montreal with a motion in the City Council declaring June as Filipino Heritage Month. The following year, the Federal Government of Canada adopted this motion, and now the entire country celebrates Filipino Heritage Month, governed by a motion in Parliament. Every June, Filipinos all over Canada have numerous festivities and programs to celebrate the whole month.

In Montreal, the celebration kicked off at the Filipino Association of Montreal and Suburbs Basement with the theme "BALIK-TANAW SA KULTURA" - Revisiting Filipino Culture Through Folk Songs and Folklore. The Panday Tinig led the anthems of both our motherland and adopted country. The speaker of the day was former Councilor Marvin Rotrand. Local restaurants Kusina Norte, Love Joy Chicken, MC Restaurant, and Papa's Restaurant sponsored the food after the show. Raquel Trinidad, an officer of the Filipino Association of Montreal and Suburbs, contributed a delicious Bilo-Bilo—it was amazing.

You will witness old songs from the 90s, including "O Ilaw" by Panday Tinig, "Malinac Lay Labi" and "O Naraniag a Bulan" by Jessie Pascual, "Magtanim Ay Di Biro" by the Filipino Association of Montreal and Suburbs Heritage Kids, "Si Pilemon" by Willie Gomez, and "Sarung Banggi" by Ricardo Ribaya. And for the songs of love: "Dandansoy" and "Leron-Leron Sinta."
