Runs 3:31 | The Lions used superb special teams play, four takeaways by an aggressive defense, and an opportunistic offense in defeating the Green Bay Pacers, 31-22, at the Silverdome. The Lions opened a 24-3 halftime lead and withstood a second half Packer rally to preserve the victory. Detroit was outgained by 304 yards (432 to 128) but scored 24 points off turnovers, including a 23-yard interception return by Jerry Holmes. Big plays from the Lions special teams -- a 57-yard kickoff return by Mel Gray and a 74-yard punt return by Walter Stanley -- kept Detroit in good field position throughout the game.
