We're living in troubled times and those causing the trouble are separating themselves from our midst so that all might see who they are ... and what god they serve. God asks little of man. He asks that we act justly, love mercy and walk humbly in fellowship with our God. But those who know not God, despise Godly requirements, and this isn't the first time the wicked have rebelled against God's requirements of us. Judean Prophet Micah lived in a southern town of Moresheth during the eigth century before Christ. His ministry spanned the reigns of kings Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. Micah's prophecies are notable for their strong themes of social justice, condemnation of corruption among the leaders and elites, and calls for repentance and ethical living.
Micah's ministry flourished during a period of decline and division in Israel, after the Northern and Southern kingdoms split Israel in two. About a century after Jezebel's reign of terror, the legal and religious pillars of Israel had been greatly weakened as many Israelites worshiped Baal and Moloch - and even sacrificed children unto alters made of stone and metal. At the end of Micah's ministry, King Hezekiah of Judah enacted significant religious reforms, attempting to bring the nation back to the worship of Yahweh and away from idolatry. These reforms included the destruction of high places, sacred pillars, and altars dedicated to other gods - notably Baal, Moloch and Astarte. Hezekiah's reign was marked by a temporary reprieve from total disaster, and he is noted for his faithfulness and attempts to lead the people back to God.
