In February 2024, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the district court's dismissal of the civil rights lawsuit Grisham v. Valenciano. The lawsuit was filed by James Everard and Christopher Grisham, who alleged that their arrests by Olmos Park police officers violated their constitutional rights. The court ruled that the officers had probable cause to arrest the plaintiffs for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, and that the plaintiffs could not point to any law that established the officers' use of force was excessive. The court also rejected the plaintiffs' Fourth Amendment claims, and their claims of municipal liability, finding that they failed to establish constitutional violations
